Dublin Institute of Technology are asking all music students, teachers, lecturers, musicologists, composers, performers, amateur musicians etc. to fill in this anonymous survey.  This is the first step in a pilot project to make it easier to find music in Irish libraries.  The survey should take only a few minutes and DIT are very grateful for your feedback.

The deadline for this survey is 16th October 2011

Dublin, 13 September 2011 – Music Generation, the U2 and Ireland Funds supported National Music Education Programme, today called for applications from local Music Education Partnerships to apply for funding to help children and young people access vocal and instrumental tuition in their local area. A total fund €1.8million is available in Round 2.

The announcement was made at the inaugural Music Generation National Seminar, where a range of individuals and organisations from around the country gathered to participate in Music Generation’s first learning network.  The learning network includes parents, performers, teachers, managers, musicians, community development workers and many more with an interest in music education, who will meet to share information and, by working together, establish networks to develop a co-ordinated national approach to improving the infrastructure for music in Ireland.  Further details

 

Making Overtures: how to progress your performance career.

Making Overtures is a professional development course that focuses on two key, non-artistic aspects of a successful career in music: self-promotion and self-management. The course is delivered by Irish and international experienced professionals addressing a range of areas including media, marketing, finance & taxations as well as local, national and international supports.

In 2011, Music Network will be offering course participants three options:

Option 1: Self-Promotion: Tues 1 & Wed 2 Nov (9:30am – 5:30pm) Course fee €100

Option 2: Self-Management: Thurs 3 & Fri 4 Nov (9:30am – 5:30pm) Course fee €100

Option 3: Self-Promotion & Self-Management: Tues 1- Fri 4 Nov (9:30am – 5:30pm) Course fee €200

The course will take place at the Centre for Creative Practices, 15 Lower Pembroke Street, Dublin 2.

Music Network is currently seeking applications from Irish and Ireland-based professional musicians and composers interested in participating in Making Overtures. Please download the course application form and brochure here and return the completed form along with a CV/Artist History and any samples of promotional materials used on previous campaigns and the appropriate course fee.

The closing date for receipt of applications is Monday 26th September, 2011 at 5pm

 


Music PAL will network with delegates attending the Music Generation National Seminar on Tuesday, 13th September, 2011 in St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra.  Music Generation is Ireland’s National Music Education programme.  It aims to help children and young people access vocal and instrumental tuition in their own locality.

4th IMC World Forum on Music. Music and Social Change
26 September to 1 October 2011, Tallinn, Estonia

The biennial IMC World Forum on Music is conceived as an influential global knowledge-building platform on music and society in the 21st century, which explores a variety of topics from diverse perspectives: cultural, political and economical. Topics go beyond the aesthetic aspects of music production and address those mechanisms and incentives that undermine or foster people’s active participation in cultural experiences. A non-commercial initiative, the forum provides the opportunity for government officials, private sector executives, music managers, activists, scholars and practitioners to engage in high-level, cross-disciplinary debates and to design the course of action for the future.
